Retiree Chair’s Report

I hope you all had a great summer.  I sure would like to see more of you at our Monthly Retiree Meetings on the second Monday of each month.  We have a pot luck dinner then a short meeting and after meeting we play cards one month and bingo the next month.  So come and have a great time talking with people you used to work with.

In the January – February – March 2011 issue of the Local 892 paper I asked if any of you could tell me who this good looking guy was. I did not get anyone who could give me his name.  It is George Elliott.  It’s his senior picture from Tecumseh High School.  George is now 95 years young and comes to about all of our Retiree Meeting with his wife Wilma, who is also 95 years young.  Both have retired from the Saline plant.

House Bill no 4484 passed the House on April 28, 2011 by 57 to 52, and then it passed the Senate on May 12, 2011 by 19 to 19.  It was signed by the Governor Rick Snyder on May 25, 2011.  What does all this mean?  It means that pension income can now be taxed by the State of Michigan.  It means that any time the State Government wants or needs more money they can tax your pensions.

It looks like we have a new agreement with UAW and Ford.  I am just going over the new contract so can’t give you much information at this time.  It looks like current Retirees got nothing in this new agreement.  There may be some moneys put into VEBA to help fund it more, but at this time we don’t know.  We will talk about this more at our meetings.  Please plan to attend your Retiree meetings.  Our next meeting will be our Thanksgiving luncheon on Nov. 14, 2011.  The luncheon will be fully catered.  Our Christmas luncheon will be Dec. 12, 2011 and is also fully catered.  Hope to see many of you out for these meetings.
